Students learn better if they are able to incorporate their bodies and movement into learning. The materials I have selected will be used to create a space where students are free to move while they learn. This specific group of kindergartners is beginning school in a time where they are more comfortable with restrictions than they are with building relationships with peers and teachers. The items I have selected like the yoga balls, wiggle seats and cushions, and area rugs, are centered around flexible seating to make the classroom environment more approachable while allowing for student to move while learning. Along with those, I have selected bean bag seats and some tables so students are able to write whole working on the carpet. I have also selected some fidget toys so students who needs to sit in a standard char are able to more their hands while they work. They have persevered through and endless amount of, exclusions and changes to their school environment. I want to bring joy and excitement back to the classroom environment. They have yet to participate in a normal school year. Many of the students are struggling to behave, participate, and feel comfortable in a typical classroom setting. Some of the behaviors I am witnessing are the inability to sit still in a classroom chair while social distancing, attend to the teacher for long periods of time, be able to self-regulate their emotions and work cooperatively in a covid restricted classroom. These items will aide solving many of these behaviors.
