Since the pandemic hit, my school district, although rich in resources, became somewhat miserly with access to printed materials. Nearly all work became digital and as that happened, request for printer access seemed to dry up. At the same time, I felt a depletion of student motivation and urgency to find satisfaction in work completion. In short, hitting a “turn in” button on Google Classroom could not and cannot compete with the pride in handing in a piece of paper or assignment. As I have moved toward including more concrete, “pencil and paper” activities for students to complete, my district has a limited number of printers which is making this endeavor very challenging to the point where colleagues and I are printing more and more at home. An award of funding would help make the simple dream of bringing some normalcy and human connectedness back to my classroom and to students across my grade level of 125 students.
