The materials and supplies that I am requesting for my students already have a "home." In other words, I know exactly where everything will go. We just need your help in getting everything through our door! The food and home items will be displayed in our dramatic play area. Specific food and home items will teach new vocabulary through play and encourage practicing tasks such as cooking, sweeping, washing dishes, and dusting. Playdough and slime will be kept in the individual student's sensory bins where students can access their items when needing a calming activity or working on a fine/gross motor skill. Puzzles are a great way we work with students to encourage problem solving and have conversations regarding the puzzles topic. We model appropriate behaviors and language when frustrated when the puzzle piece doesn't fit or modeling asking for help and sharing. Big joe bean bag chairs are a huge hit in our classroom, with out students having different abilities a big joe bean chair gives enough support for our students to be able to transition out of their wheelchairs into bean bag chairs so they actively participate in floor play with other peers.
