As an intensive reading recovery teacher I focus on meeting kids wherever they are. That means wherever the pandemic has left them, and surrounding them with all the knowledge they need to soar. The younger children I see are enthusiastic and eager, but the older kids struggle against wanting to learn but also peer pressure to look cool. These books are high interest to upper elementary and this will increase their involvement and participation. “Once you learn to read, you will be forever free.” — Frederick Douglass knew that we need to get these books into the hands of our struggling readers to free them to become great life long learners.
