As a first year teacher with very limited resources and funds but lots of ideas to support my students’ needs, the materials I’ve requested will make a huge difference in my students’ lives! I want to build a calming down and reading corner in my classroom. Currently in that corner, all I have is one shelf of books, some chairs, and a small whiteboard. I want to put flexible seating options around my classroom and especially in this calming down and reading corner because it gives students the freedom to learn comfortably and to their best ability. The sensory toys like the stress balls will help with students when they need to calm down. The magnet letters are for the whiteboard, so they can engage in word games that open their minds while having fun! I have one bounce ball seat in my classroom that works really well with students, but oftentimes multiple students want to use it so it would be great to have a few more as well as other flexible seating options for students who learn well in those seating types. During free choice or silent reading is when most students will use flexible seating and I try to give students some free choice time every day. However, a couple of students need the support of flexible seating during independent work as well. Books are another major necessity in my classroom as I’m trying to build a classroom library with an abundance of books that are grade level appropriate. Currently, I mostly only have lower level books and a lot of students have expressed to me that these books are “too easy.” I want to be able to provide books that are interesting and challenging for these students. Every bit of support helps! Thank you!
