My students’ parents mostly only speak Spanish and when I talk to them about helping their children learn to decode words using the sounds of letters, they usually say that they don’t speak English! With this project of having the materials to learn how sounds form words, my students will be able to practice their literacy skills by themselves at home. They will learn new vocabulary, read and write words which are all foundational skills for the First and Second grades. Having strong literacy skills will increase students reading levels.
