The Sensory Courtyard project is being proposed to provide a safe outdoor space for students to utilize during recess, earning time, or when in need of a motor break. The fun and interactive motor activities will allow the students to grow and play while learning outdoors. Our students need a safe outdoor space to learn and explore while receiving necessary sensory input. The sensory courtyard will be an opportunity for the students to use an outdoor space for motor activity and sensory input without the risk of elopement. Self-regulation, awareness and body energy will be put to good use while exercising on sensory swings, rock climbing walls, balance beams, and a climbing dome. In finding a healthy outlet for energy and emotion, we would set our students up for long term success in navigating stressful situations. This regulation would translate into more effective classroom instruction and students that are open and ready to learn.
