These books will give my readers at a variety of reading levels and interests the opportunity to learn how to read and talk about the social issues of our times. Students will be given an opportunity to learn about cultures and problems beyond the scope of their social lives and dig into the lives of characters different than themselves. Some will have opportunities to see themselves represented in these books - both experiences are designed to build empathy for their classmates, peers, and the world around them. The world needs more empathy!
