Our kindergarteners are opening their minds and their ears to the wonderful world of language through the practice of Phonemic Awareness. Phonemic Awareness, the skill of listening to and manipulating the sounds in spoken language, is foundational in the process of learning to read, spell, and write. Kindergarteners will practice listening for rhyme as they explore playful, rhythmic, and visually engaging literature and activities. The practice of rhyming helps tune their ears to the sounds in spoken language, which is a springboard for their future work in reading and writing. The materials in this project are chosen specifically to provide students with a rich listening experience coupled with games and activities to help them realize their personal growth in phonemic awareness!
