What do you feel like after sitting in a hard seat all day? As adults, we try to avoid it at all costs. We will go to the nearest office supply store to buy the most comfortable rolling chair for our desk. When we get home, we want a nice comfy recliner to lounge in for the remainder of the night. Now what about students in any average public school? They have to sit at those hard desks for almost seven hours a day. When they go to the cafeteria, they have no choice but to sit on another hard seat. Library? Art? Same and same. Even on the occasions when they get to work with partners or groups, they have to sit or lie on another hard surface… the floor. I’d love to be able to provide my students with comfortable seating options for times when they are reading with a partner, working in small groups, or when they just need to relax for a few minutes. I want to offer my students flexibility in their choice of seats when it is time for them to get into groups. They love working with partners, but always complain about having to sit on the floor.
