These books will continue to enhance the collaborative and culturally responsive classroom. Books that my middle schoolers are interested in and want to read are occasionally a challenge to come by. Through a student-first perspective, it has become very aware to me the high level of student interest in culture and race, especially that of which they come from. This book will be used continually throughout the year as we engage in project-based learning and dig deeper into student identity, culture, and race. Every student book that is placed in my library is treated with love and care, and they are thankful for the opportunities to read. This book has been chosen with my students in mind and their desire to learn and share more about their identity. We will start by using this book to dig deeper into students' identity and race to gain a better sense of where each of us comes from and what makes us who we are. Then, throughout the year we will continue to use this as we investigate world problems and discovering potential solutions for these. We may answer questions such as "How do we increase the population of teachers of color?" and more.
