In an ESL classroom with Newcomers (students new to the United States) learning needs to an active, interesting and participatory experience. Having supplies that will not be economically accessible for refugees and newly arrived English learners will remove obstacles to participation. Many of my lessons will involve using an interactive notebook and note taking that is based on drawing (sketch notes) and creating manipulatives that enhance comprehension. This is the first year that this particular Newcomer ESL World Geography Class will be taught in my school and I want to give these students every advantage possible in order to have a successful learning experience. Having a binder to house the various projects that students will create, will provide a cumulative resource at the end of the school year to review for State mandated testing. I want my students to be prepared and equipped for a positive outcome.
