Photography can help students understand that they are not defined by their surroundings. They in fact possess an element of power to alter their surroundings by choosing to see them differently. This extends beyond the students' immediate community by creating an awareness of the world around them. It encourages the mind to be in the moment and aware of what’s happening in the world so that it can be captured with the camera. Photography is fun, challenging, and mentally engaging; it can be a distraction from everyday stresses, and provide a sense of pride and accomplishment when a photograph turns out just right.

About my class
