As a school based social worker, my goal is to provide an easy transition to our students as they return from online learning. Our school has enrollment of approximately 260 students. I would like to assure that we are able to meet the social emotional needs of our students. My project is updating our behavioral health tool kit to support the social emotional needs of our students. Our Mental Health Team will provide behavioral support services to students in pre-k through 5th grade. I will provide supports to special education students and crisis intervention to all students as needed. In addition, I will facilitate a yoga class 1 day a week to a group of students to strengthen their ability to self-regulate and to connect with each other. The overall goal is to provide students with the best opportunity to learn. These resources will help to enhance our yoga and mindfulness curriculum. Students will have individual mats to engage in yoga and our mindfulness curriculum. Students will be taught stress reducing techniques and have tangible tools (such as books on yoga, sensory fidget toys, variety of games to keep engaged in learning, and visual examples like the magic ball which helps to demonstrate breath techniques and levels of stress) to help decrease stress and anxiety, which in turn will make them more available for learning.
