Many of my students demonstrate difficulty with sensory integration and may not have the adequate ability to express their distress or discomfort as a typically developed child would. By providing them with a sensory-rich environment, filled with a variety of soothing and calming materials, we enable the child to make appropriate choices to help themselves in taking part in daily educational activities. All of the items(Magna-Tiles, sensory balls, sensory rings, wobble cushions, etc.) selected for this project would be of benefit to a child with autism that finds calm in touching different textures or a child with attention deficit characteristics to fidget and move around within a select space, enabling them to fulfill that internal need to move while working on a tabletop or whole group activity.
