I teach a Special Day Class at a continuation high school. All of my students have been diagnosed with a mild/moderate disability and are attending my class due mainly to poor behaviors at the regular high school. Most have had some history with drugs, violence, sexual abuse, and/or extreme defiance. Nearly all have trouble dealing with anger. A handful have already been through the juvenile justice system. On the surface, many may view them as lost causes. Listen closely and you will find that their personal histories are heartbreaking yet they carry on. Looking deeper, you may find hope that people so young can and do change. With some inspiration from our part, they may. Looking deeper you may find an opportunity to help.
