I teach in a low-income school in a low-income district, which means limited resources. Thus, the closest printer or copier available to me is in the next building over. We have just five minutes between classes, which means any modified readings or assignments must be prepared after class is over, well after the need is identified. A basic printer/copier in the classroom (which will be shared with the teacher next door to me) will allow me to make quick and individualized adjustments and supports for students AS THEIR NEEDS ARISE. Further, because I will not need to race to the next building to print something between classes, I will be available to greet my students individually as they enter the classroom. That small opportunity for connection is so important for developing the strong relationships between students and teachers that education requires.
