I have plenty of empty shelf space that I would love to fill with books that represent my students of color and of diverse home lives. I plan on implementing Silent Sustained Reading this year to improve literacy rates and I need books my students are interested in and want to read. This is just one step towards creating my diverse library of young adult novels and graphic novels that I know my kids will enjoy. These book will always be available for my students to borrow and read for as long as they'd like.
