My students have limited experiences outside the classroom. They do not have to same opportunities I had as a child. Many of the homes they come from are single parent, or grandparent, homes and the parents are busy working to support their families. They do not have funds available to buy books for them to read at home. Majority of their reading is done at school, and much of that is selected from curriculum texts because of the limited funds available to purchase high interest books for a classroom library.
