I would love to make my first grade classroom a great learning environment for my incoming first grade students. As I mentioned, I recently found out that I was teaching first grade and do not have any first grade materials. By donating to our project, you will help create a print-rich, safe learning environment for students to freely participate and share their thoughts about what they are learning. A classroom that understands that mistakes are a part of learning is critical. Mistakes allow learning to happen and force you to critically think about what you are learning. The whiteboards will encourage participation and provide a hands-on learning experience, while also allowing students to have their own separate board to decrease feeling "put on the spot." It will also prevent sharing with other students, which will decrease the likelihood of transmitting any germs. The partition dividers will provide a safer learning environment for my first grade students as well. They will allow the students to move around the room and use them in different locations (which can be quite helpful with antsy 5/6 year olds), while still providing a barrier that will create a safer classroom. Just having the option to learn where you desire can motivate the most reluctant learner. The Scholastic News subscription and other learning materials will help provide a print-rich classroom with current facts/events for learning fun! In previous classrooms, I have highlighted current weekly events/news and the students use these articles in various ways, connected to what I am currently teaching in the curriculum. That is just one way that the magazines will be used. They also provide attractive visuals and photographs that entice the students to want to read and learn about what is featured in the magazine. Great for beginning readers!
