My class of fourth-graders is full of energy and they love to move when they learn. Having flexible seating options in the classroom would allow both student choice and for students to maximize their learning opportunities. It's hard to sit in a desk chair all day, it's especially for a growing fourth grader. Having the opportunity to move and be comfortable while learning enhances engagement and encourages concentration. Having the chance to pick their seating option also allows students to have a say in their learning experience and gives them a voice in the classroom. Having seating options other than the traditional desk chair will boost student engagement and will help students learn at their full potential. I have seen a need in my students for flexible seating and know that they will all benefit greatly from having more choice in how they do their work. Whether a student needs a whole other seating option, like an exercise ball or a wobble stool, or they just need something they can fidget with quietly, like a chair band or wiggle cushion, all the students in my classroom will directly benefit from more seating options. I am confident that flexible seating is a very valuable asset and will be of great use in my classroom!
