Do you remember the time when you were told what to read and when to read it? I know, I do! But no more. My class encourages student choice during reading. Throughout the years, graphic novels have become such a key influence to get reluctant readers reading. With these books, my kids learn to inference, synthesize, understand character development, but most importantly... enjoy reading! My classroom has become a place of comfort for many of my student because of the love and time I have put into my reading corners and building up my library. Kids are thrilled when I tell them they can check out books, take them home, and bring them back the next day. I live on a system of the honor code and have not lost a book since. Nothing makes me happier than when I look up and see my students immersed in their books. Many years late, I want them to remember that their love of reading grew in my classroom, and I believe this project will help me do that.
