I will be teaching a museum studies elective for my seniors, having them "do" history in a variety of ways, ranging from archaeology to museum exhibit design. This is my first year teaching the class, and I cannot wait to show them how history is practiced outside the classroom! The supplies are for an archaeological "dig" we will be doing in the classroom to learn ways to study prehistoric history and learn about artifacts as historic sources. Students will also be working on designing rotating museum exhibits on a variety of topics including historic artifacts, food history, and war. The exhibits that seniors design will then be incorporated into my sophomore and junior history classes so that those students can see different kinds of primary sources. This will be a fun way to have seniors think about passing on the knowledge they gained to other students in the community.
