I believe that all children are unique and bring something to the table, not only in their education but also to the world in which they live in. Each student has unique giftings, unique personalities, and unique experiences. My role as a teacher is to encourage and foster their uniqueness and to help them see their potential, and that includes creating a classroom space in which they feel they are able to do so. My goal is to create a classroom space where students not only feel safe and comfortable in, but a room in which they feel joyful to be in, where they feel seen, heard, and overall a part of our Class Ohana. With the items requested, I will be able to decorate the classroom in order to help foster that sense of belonging for my students. However, there is so much more to it than just the visuals of the classroom space. Fostering a sense of belonging will also include engaging in activities where the students (and myself) share our similarities and differences and how we can embrace the similarities and differences of others, participating in classroom community bonding activities such as building out classroom rules together, participating in morning meetings, as well as conducting in team building activities. Overall, I strive to create this classroom into a safe space for my students so that they would feel they could be themselves because they feel safe, comfortable, seen, heard, and a part of the classroom community.
