In fourth grade students are reading to learn and when students cannot hear themselves read they cannot make self corrections. In small groups, students will have the opportunity to quietly read to themselves without disturbing others. Students often get a better understanding of the content that they are reading when they can say it and hear it. Being able to hear themselves read, promotes reading fluency and confidence. When students are fluent readers, they are more confident with reading aloud in class. These whisper phones will be a lifesaver for my timid readers.
