As soon as I take out a book, my students know that our music class is coming to its end. Whether developing their fluency by sight-reading along, opening their ears to new sounds in accompanying recordings, keeping the beat as I model singing the verses, choral singing as a class to a familiar song, being inspired by an illustrator's interpretation of the text, or learning something new about an instrument or musician or part of the world, my students find their owns way to connect to this lesson conclusion ritual. Expanding and diversifying our classroom library will enhance their literacy connections and help students see themselves, inspiring them to explore music and songs further. With these new books, my students will notice even more ways outside of our classroom that one can express themselves musically. Music related books open their minds such as the Listening Walk describing the sounds in the world around them, or the famous musicians of Bob Marley and Ella Fitzgerald, or stories like the uniqueness of their own names being a song.
