I would like to teach my visually impaired students how to use apps and the accessibility features on an iPad to access their educational environment and curriculum. The built-in accessibility features on an iPad offer a variety of access options, therefore, it is important that these students are introduced to this technology at an early age and are provided the opportunity to continue development of their digital skills. Having an iPad, plus the skills to use it with accessibility settings, can prepare a visually impaired student to be an independent learner, capable of participating in all environments. There are many valuable iPad apps for children who are visually impaired that are used to stimulate the use of vision, develop basic concepts and skills, and to help these students learn how to use accessibility features such as Voice Over.
