I am requesting a diverse range of books, including several books from a series called Surviving Southside. (This is a Hi-Lo series, accessible to struggling readers while addressing topics more appropriate to teen readers.) I also included anthology selections that focus on diverse perspectives, including LGBTQIA identities, teens with disabilities, and immigrant experiences. And because they are well-loved by many of our students, I included several new graphic novel options. These selections will increase interest in reading during our daily reading period and provide more books that reflect our students' own experiences.
