By having a sensory room in the special education classroom for students with special needs in the 9-12th grade, students have a safe place to go when feeling overwhelmed or overstimulated. Comfortable bean bags and headphones help create a safe place where a student calm down and transition back to their classwork. Light cubes and light optic lamps are sensory items that will be used to help a student feel calm and comfortable. By making sure students have a safe place to go minimizes behavior outbursts and encourages appropriate self-calming techniques.
