This project is important because reading is fundamental to a student's learning. Research now shows that a child who doesn’t learn the reading basics early on is unlikely to learn them at all. Any child who doesn’t learn to read early and accurately will find it harder to master other skills and knowledge. When many children do not learn to read, the public schools cannot and will not be regarded as successful. Learning to read is not natural or easy for most children. Reading is an acquired skill. With these books, my goal is to bring an enjoyment of reading to my students. I will do this by guiding them throughout their readings. I think these books are good choices for my students because they are relatable and intriguing. The settings in both books are set in a high school. The books have valuable lessons that each student could earn from. Along with the readings, I will have them write. Writing and reading its so important in building that foundation for learning. It allows the reader to make connections and apply them. Those skills can be applied to other schools subjects, such as math and science.
