The students in my classroom are in a self contained special education classroom, working on functional academics. We are working on teaching them the skills necessary to be independent, and cooking is a great way to teach them how to use the equipment properly, as well as math and reading skills. Students will learn how to read recipes, measure ingredients, use a stove/oven, clean up after themselves, and handle money when we sell what we cook to teachers in the building. We have been given access to a kitchen in our classroom, but we do not have the necessary items to cook.
