Throughout the years, I’ve found that color-coding has greatly helped English language learner students follow along throughout the writing process. The essay is broken up and assigned color (Post-it and highlighter), helping students remember what should go next in the essay. This helps students with the writing process from brainstorming to the final essay because they get to follow and match the colors! Due to the language barrier, kids can associate and follow along with colors. Pops of color also help my Dyslexic students read and write, so I like providing them with colored lined paper.
