It is extremely helpful to have hard copies of materials/resources for my students, especially those with accommodations that require their work on paper (not on the computer). When students can put pencil to paper, something they have not had to do in about 2 years due to COVID-19, they are able to retain information more efficiently. Having 140 students, I am constantly printing class sets of documents; thus it would be SO helpful to have a printer, paper, and sufficient amounts of ink in my room since I am not allowed to leave my classroom throughout the day. Students that must work from home (Example: those in quarantine) and do not have access to internet require paper packets- which means I am really in need of the materials to make that happen! Students this year are only allowed to take their school devices home if they pay the device fee, and many students' families can not afford it OR choose to opt out. Therefore being able to print students' assignments, supporting resources and/or worksheets would allow them to complete work at home and continue the learning process beyond my classroom walls. Other than Science, we also often discuss other important topics like mental health awareness and socio-emotional learning. Effective, impactful resources for topics such as these often require printed materials too! It would overall be SO helpful and enhance my students' class time and experience, if I had access to a printer, paper and ink in my classroom!
