This past school year was my first year teaching kindergarten having previously taught only upper elementary. I learned very quickly that these kids need LOTS of movement! This age group does not learn best by sitting in a hard uncomfortable chair with a traditional desk. By having some other options in my classroom, I plan to provide “flexible seating” in addition to their desks in order to give them their much needed breaks. I do realize that most future classrooms they will be in have chairs and desks, so it is important that they do learn to sit in them. However, with this being their first year at school - what a perfect time to give some options to help ease that transition and to also better their learning experience.
