We have been developing a native plant based curriculum to teach our science standards through hands on, project based, and culturally focused lessons. We have a school garden where students plant, nurture, study and observe, measure, and harvest native plants for food, health, and traditional practical uses, including the making of cordage, candlenut lamps, oil, and fabric resourced directly from the land. We also learn about the cultural significance of these plants through songs, chants and stories. The garden materials, such as the handheld hoes and cultivators, and the garden hose would be used for the cultivation of planting our garden. The ipad would be used to document observations with photos, and videos, connected to their Google Drives, and to produce videos of their projects using the iMovie application. They will also be able to access other apps through the ipad that will enable students to graph and track the growth of their plant babies.
