When I was a child, my eyes lit up when my teacher announced it was time for science! I can only attribute that to how engaging my teacher made the topics--and she made them come alive by making learning hands on. I loved growing seeds into plants and building bridges out of popsicle sticks. I'm convinced that my love for learning, especially in the field of science, was born in that 5th grade classroom. If students are to grow as 21st learners, the implementation of STEM activities is a vital part of their education, hands down. These STEM activity kits go along with our 2nd grade science standards. I plan to use them as hands on science activity stations for the students after a lesson is taught. This inquiry based play will help them process the learning and deepen their understanding of the scientific principles being taught. In addition to using the kits for hands on learning stations, I will also use them during lessons to help me as I teach. Using these as a clear visual will help students understand the scientific concepts taught, as well as keep them engaged.
