My students comprise of both African American and Hispanic speaking populations. They are Grade 8 science students in an urban middle school in the State of Maryland. They are also special needs students in a self-contained intensive class. Our school population is a mixture of different races, but African American students are about half of the population. About 45% of the school population eat free and reduced lunch.
