The covid pandemic forced many of our students into distance learning and this greatly impacted our special needs community. Students on the Autism spectrum and with special learning needs to be missed out on a year of developing much-needed social and emotional skills. Given the impact the pandemic has had on many of our students, it is even more important this year to have space where our special needs community can receive the care and attention that they desperately need. In creating a Special Education Resource room, we are not only offering academic support, we are meeting the needs of their social-emotional challenges. We arrived on campus this year to find our special education resource room empty! Your donation will help us to create a learning environment to meet the social-emotional needs of our students. Help us create a special place for our special education students. The rug, pad, bookshelf, wall decal, and chairs we've selected will help create a reading nook and a time-out safety zone for when the pressure of being in inclusive classrooms gets to be too much. The curtains will help diffuse the tremendous amount of sunlight that pours into our room which will benefit those with sensory sensitivities. The whiteboard, standing desk, bookshelf, rolling cart, and desk organizer will assist in instruction for when we work with students one-on-one.
