Aloha! This is my first year teaching and I am in a new classroom, so my project includes materials to set up my classroom with supports to help students learn about themselves and their own emotional regulation, as well as to build a strong classroom "Ohana". Foot-rest bands, fidgets, and emotional regulation materials in a "Calm-Down Caddy" will be available for students to support this transition to spending time in a classroom rather than at home. We will get to know our preferences, and build strategies like focused breath and strategic use of the Calm-Down Caddy to manage emotions. We will use the arts materials to complete self-portraits for display, so the room reflects the students who spend their time here. Student white-boards will reduce paper waste, as well as provide students with easy access to share their thinking, draw examples, and build fine-motor skills while completing classwork. Thank you for supporting our Ohana, as we learn and grow together!
