These books will teach my students about diversity and inclusion. Our classroom's library is outdated and does not reflect different cultures and backgrounds. I want to create an all-inclusive environment for my students and that starts with exposing them to many different books. My students will have "free choice" days in the classroom, in which they can choose any book from the library to read during independent and partner reading time. With these new books, our library will be filled with a variety of books that are relatable and fun for all of my students. Students learn to love reading when they have opportunities to read books on topics that they enjoy and can relate to. I always stress the importance of reading to my students. I want to provide them with books that they can enjoy, so that it builds their confidence in reading and becomes something that they choose to do for fun. After experiencing a stressful year due to Covid- 19, many of my students did not have access to books (especially if they remained virtual all of the 2020-2021 school year). This is an unfortunate truth that truly breaks my heart. Our new classroom library will help make this school year a much better experience for my students. As we gear up for the upcoming school year, providing a print-rich classroom full of diverse books to all of my students is my top priority!
