Being that I am teaching 1st grade, having hands-on materials is key. At this age, school should be fun and learning while having fun has shown a significant increase in a students ability to learn. With these items, it will allow the scholar to still be a kid but have fun while learning at the same time. For example, having these materials that scholars can actually feel and move around like the magnetic letters and math components, give the scholar a realistic connotation. These materials and supplies that I am requesting for will be used everyday for center time and whole group activities. During center times, they will have a designated area where they will go to work on material that has been taught in the class. Having hands on items to practice, helps the scholars get a better understanding of what has been taught. What I have noticed is scholars that have the resources are more engaged in their work and learning. Each item that has been selected is colorful, fun, or hands where the scholar has to build words, sentences, or even draw pictures. I believe that this will bring back the fun in school for these scholars that are returning from being completely virtual for an entire school year.
