As a new teacher this project is very important for teaching my students. Kindergarteners come into the classroom with a lot to learn not just academically but emotionally as well. They also learn the foundations of reading which is critical to them becoming effective readers throughout the rest of their lives. This is why I chose to focus on creating a library/calming area in my classroom. The area will that I have envisioned will have to be space efficient due to the limited space in my classroom now that we are using desks. This is why I am asking for the 4 cube storage organizers to store books. They can be set up in a corner and will not take up much floor space. Since our library will have to double as a calming area I am also asking for a fluffy rug, bean bag chair, and sensory toys. These will be used to calm down students when they are attempting to sort through their emotions. I am also asking for a few books that will help us build class community. I am also requesting a voice amplifier to help students hear me say word sounds clearly through my mask when teaching. Phonemic awareness is very important when teaching students to read. And lastly, a storage cart to store supplies for when we are creating art work or journaling about stories that we have read as a class. I appreciate anything that is give to help my Kinders become enthusiastic readers and masters of managing their emotions.
