My students have been learning at home for the last 14 months and I want to give them a space where they feel is just as cozy as their own home. With flexible seating and lighting, I believe it can truly change the entire atmosphere of the classroom. Flexible seating gives students the option to control their physical environments in which they work best. Flexible seating also opens the space for increased collaboration among students. Team work allows for more creativity and classroom discussions since students can easily work in pairs or small groups. Research shows that fluorescent lighting used in most classrooms can lead to a host of difficulties for children, including migraines. By diffusing these harsh lights, and introducing more natural lighting into the classroom, we’re working with the body’s natural circadian rhythms to indicate to the brain that it’s time to be awake and alert.
