This machine will add to the variety of media and processes we use to create in the art classroom. My students experimented with a cricut machine for a week last year, and it was a huge success. It was immediately apparent that this tool would be a benefit to our program in many ways. The ability to create an online design then cut it out brought a real world application to them in the art room. The cricut is very versatile and can be used to cut many materials, such as vinyl, wood and leather, which can then be used in a variety of ways. For example, we can design masking for etching glass, stencils for gelli plates, and many other things. This machine will be utilized by students in their personal artwork as well as in product design and creative entrepreneurial endeavors. There are countless applications of this technology as part of the creative process. Students will also be able to develop new, innovative products for fundraising efforts to benefit our school community.
