This project will make a difference in our learning community by giving students the resources needed to grow academically, increase love of learning, and open their eyes to multiple perspectives. Creating and maintaining a classroom library that has up to date and relevant books will increase student engagement. Offering students motivating choices will lead to more time reading, which will in turn lead to academic growth. Intentional book choice that offers diverse perspectives will give students in our learning community an opportunity to see themselves in the text. It will also give them a chance to learn about the cultural identity of others. Diversity in the books that we read not only gives us a chance to value multiple perspectives but can encourage a deeper understanding of our own cultural identity.
