The yearbook staff would like an iMac computer for yearbook use because they are using district-issued Chromebooks and one desktop to complete the yearbook, but these become a problem when editing and reviewing spreads and editing and uploading pictures, because of their compact design, low resolution, and downloading and processing speeds. Students are also taking pictures of events on their cell phones (cell phones these days have better quality than our yearbook camera), specifically iPhones, and we are not able to see them on the Google Drive because they are in iPhoto format, forcing students or myself to use personal Macbooks to upload and reformat the pictures. Having an iMac would eliminate the need to use personal Macbook computers by allowing us to view all picture formats on one device. An iMac would also offer faster processing speeds, allowing us to access and upload more pictures at one time. We house all of our photos on Google Drive, and because the Drive is becoming more full each year, it takes longer and longer for students to be able to see all the pictures available to them on the Drive. Being able to allow students to use the iMac in class would allow students to access and upload all pictures quickly. It would also allow us to edit photos through Apple’s Photos application, making for clearer, more vibrant pictures. The iMac screen itself would benefit the yearbook staff because of its size and high resolution, allowing us to see actual hues between colors and more true picture quality. The 27-inch screen would also allow us to view an entire spread to scale, allowing for more accurate picture and text sizing. Please consider our request to help make the yearbook the best it can be for generations to come.
