My new students and I are at the beginning of a journey. We are rebuilding an Orchestra program from the ground up. One of the first steps of success is teaching students how to organize their music materials. Handing students an organized binder of materials gives them ownership and vestiture in the program. I had a logo made for the Orchestra program and will give each child a personalized binder label with that logo. The tuners will allow students independence to tune their own instruments, assume responsibility for themselves, by-products of learning music. Music can make a life-changing difference for young people. The community, support, recognition, and accomplishment are all life-affirming for a middle-level child; music provides all of those. These students attend a low socioeconomic school, but we will not let that get in the way of making great music.
