All research in early reading will state the importance of modeling fluent reading along with effective reading strategies. Most reading programs provide small books or passages that their publishers create for this purpose. Although these are helpful, they do not utilize the popular authors and modern themes that connect with today's students. I want to instill a love for reading in my children. I want them to investigate authors further after listening to a story read aloud. I want them to relate to the classroom books and seek out those similar popular books. Therefore, I need an updated classroom library of books that can be used to model read aloud components and introduce them to an entire world of authors. This project will provide a new book a week throughout the school year for my first grade classroom so I can model fluent reading and proper use of comprehension strategies.
