Carpet time is essential in any classroom, and especially beneficial in a dual immersion classroom. There is warm feeling that comes from sitting together, as students acquire a second language and develop cultural awareness. Gathering, discussing, collaborating, sharing, and practicing are necessary for language acquisition to take place. My students need a clean, inviting, and warm rug, to gather as a community and learn from each other. Carpets allow for versatile seating arrangements. And let's not forget that our best classroom memories are of listening to captivating, thrilling books read aloud at the carpet.
