I teach a reading intervention class for middle school students who are reading significantly below grade level. My plan is to use a program designated by my school, but add my own touch by choosing high interest books for the students to engage with. By reading these books, which are at their current reading level, and writing short thoughts, ideas, and questions on personal white boards, the goal is to garner interest in reading across various genres and improve reading skills and vocabulary. With the gain of these skills, my goal is for students to also gain confidence and a love of reading.
